What movies do you love to watch on Halloween?
Fantastic question. I tend to turn all of October into Halloween, haha. On the actual day I usually just watch Trick r Treat and the first two Halloween films as a double feature because I think they’re best watched together. The rest of the month, though? I watch so much stuff.
In terms of movies, at least one Night of the Demons flick is mandatory viewing, usually along with Return of the Living Dead, Fright Night, Monster Squad, Troll 2, Ernest Scared Stupid (shut up!), the lesser Elm Street sequels, and Night of the Creeps. Cheesy ’80s stuff, basically.
Spooky old haunted house movies are a big October thing for me too. The Changeling, Burnt Offerings, The Innocents, The Haunting, The Amityville Horror, at least one awful Amityville sequel (usually involving a haunted lamp), and so on. Totally adding The Conjuring to that list from here on out though.
Lots of Universal-ish stuff also. Dracula, at least a few Frankenstein flicks, the crossover movies, The Old Dark House. And then stuff that feels sort of Universal Monsters-ish like Jekyll and Hyde ‘31 and newer things like Ed Wood, Silver Bullet, or the previously mentioned Monster Squad.
And anthologies! Anthologies more than anything else, I think. Trick r Treat like I said earlier, but also Creepshows 1 and 2, Tales From The Crypt ‘72, Vault of Horror, Body Bags now that I’ve finally seen it, Tales From The Darkside: The Movie, and pretty much any other anthology I own or can dig up. Those are pretty much the background noise of my October every year.
I watch a lot of old Halloween specials and horror-themed TV shows too. Stuff I grew up with, mostly. Treehouse of Horror, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, a few sitcoms (the fucking Saved By The Bell murder mystery!), like every horror-themed Nicktoon episode ever made, at least a little Tales From The Crypt/Darkside, Twilight Zone, Travel Channel “documentaries” on the paranormal that are laughably bad and absolutely wonderful for it, etc.
I am not very healthy, basically, is what I’m saying here.
